There are several things that you need to look at including:

Past projects
References
Was the model delivered on time?
Was the project on or under budget?
How much did you have to manage your BIM provider?
How diligent did you have to check the model after they were complete?
Financial stability of the firm you are dealing with? Are they going to be in business when your project is being finished?
